Wake up to a warm bowl of tasty, smooth oatmeal. Deliciously filling, oats are renowned for keeping the hunger pangs at bay and provide you with lasting energy.

An excellent source of dietary fibre, oats are high in protein, vitamins and minerals. What’s more, they are said to lower cholesterol, can help regulate blood sugar and protect against heart disease, making this breakfast classic a healthy way to start your day.

Serve with a splash of milk, cream or your preferred vegetable milk and sweeten with brown sugar or honey. For an extra nutritious breakfast, add some fresh or dried fruit, nuts or seeds. Also delicious with a sprinkling of cinnamon or nutmeg.

To prepare: Combine ½ cup of oats and 1 cup of water and microwave on high for 3 minutes. Makes one serving. Alternatively, to cook your oatmeal on the hob, bring 2 cups of water to the boil. Add 1 cup of oats, reduce heat and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Makes 2 servings.
